Welcome to Finish First

Finish First is an outcome based chiropractic practice that specializes in sports injuries and nutrition. We focus beyond the symptom of pain associated with injuries, and strive to improve the function of the injured body part. Once pain is alleviated and function is restored, prevention of the same injury is thoroughly addressed at Finish First. We work hard to prohibit any future complication such as loss of range of motion, arthritis or other degenerative problems. Strength and conditioning is vital to improve and prevent complications to an injury, and we take great pride in developing customized treatment programs that deliver results.

Here at Finish First, you will find an accomplished team of specialists that spend a great deal of time with each and every patient individually to ensure the absolute best in quality care. Often times people think once pain is alleviated they are healed, but there is more to an injury than just pain. We focus on much more by addressing structure, conditioning and strengthening the soft tissues surrounding an injury. All the components (skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and bone) of an injury must be addressed in treatment to provide optimal recovery.

Take control of your health:

Finish First offers the most up to date resources in sports rehab, injury prevention, functional medicine and general wellness.

Look below for more information on how we specialize in treating your health concerns.

Soft tissue/ sports injury

Throughout our body we have a web of connective tissue that covers and connects the muscles and skeletal structures in our body. This tissue can become dysfunctional and restricted with overuse in training, injuries, trauma, inflammation, and even stress causing decreased mobility and function, as well as pain. However, these restrictions can be corrected through soft tissue manipulation and mobility increasing flexibility, more fluid functional movements, and decrease pain.  Here at Finish First, we use myofascial release techniques and Graston to break up these restrictive adhesions and compliment the treatment with dynamic and static mobility and corrective exercises. Although this is a reactive treatment, our goal is to show patients how to be more pro-active in their day to day physical activities.

Autoimmune

Most of us have heard of the term autoimmune disorders, however we don’t truly understand what it means or how to treat it. Autoimmune disorders are a wide variety of conditions that develop when the immune system attacks our own tissues instead of pathogens. Some of these conditions include, but are not limited to, Graves’ disease, Hashimoto’s disease, Celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, Multiple sclerosis, Psoriasis, Rheumatoid arthritis, and Type 1 Diabetes. There are more than 80 types of autoimmune disorders, yet the proper treatment is difficult to plan as each condition and patient differ in cause for their condition. Here at Finish First, we routinely employ methods such as, salivary assay hormonal and neurotransmitter tests, IgG food allergy testing, comprehensive gastrointestinal stool analyses, and many other diagnostic tools to reach a proper diagnosis and thus treatment.  We educate our patients on what is driving the upregulation of their immune system through diet and environmental factors, lifestyle, heavy metals, wheat, grain, diary, sugar, and stress. With more than 75% of our immune system being comprised in our gut, it is essential to heal the gut first with diet, nutritional supplementation like probiotics, boosting glutathione (a master antioxidant), bone broth to help regulate T-cell production, and Vitamin D.

Cancer

We know that cancer has countless secondary causes, however we also know that the primary target for cancer to initiate is in the mitochondria, also known as the powerhouse, of our cells. Along with other practitioners, knowledge is what drives our approach here at Finish First towards building a healthy metabolism, as it serves as the origin of the disease. If cancer is caused by defective metabolism then the first and most obvious place we focus is through diet, because we know diet is the quickest and surest way to alter metabolism. We know that the same agents that damage our DNA, such as cigarette smoke, chemicals, and other carcinogens also damage mitochondria and initiate pathways that manifest in uncontrolled proliferation.  Therefore, we work with you and educate you on all the factors that will affect your metabolism, such as diet, exercise, sleep, stress, beauty products and lifestyle choices. We utilize the co-management of other specialists, literature of the most researched laboratory tumor markers and diagnostic imaging to better your care plan. We also work with the use of botanicals when necessary to provide treatment with lesser side effects. We want you to join us and get excited about the treatment options that are well within your reach as we work together with you and other health care practitioners to form a comprehensive therapeutic plan of care.

Cardiovascular

[perch_table]
Did you know that according to the INTERHEART study, which examined cardiovascular risk factors in 51 countries, 9 out of the 10 strongest risk factors for heart disease are modifiable by changes in diet and lifestyle. Here at Finish First we know that age also plays a high risk factor in heart disease and we pride ourselves in educating our patients on how to manage their risk factors through heart-healthy diet, lifestyle and nutritional support.
Do you feel that you are at a higher risk for cardiovascular disease? Review the most common signs and symptoms below:
1. Do you have a family history of heart disease?
2. Are you overweight?
3. Do you have diabetes?
4. Is your blood pressure high?
5. Do you feel chronic fatigue?
6. Do you have a sedentary job?
7. Are you experiencing stress?
8. Do you suffer from a thyroid condition?
How we help you manage your risk factors:
1. Heart-healthy diet:
We work with you to create a meal plan that includes all of the necessary micronutrients in their most bioavailable form, emphasizes an optimal balance of fats, eliminates highly processed and refined foods, and reduces other food toxins that interfere with nutrient absorption.
2. Heart-healthy exercise:
The benefits of exercise are endless and we work to help you structure an exercise plan that fits your lifestyle. How does exercise correlate with your heart health? Exercise can provide maintenance of body weight or weight loss, blood pressure control, return of insulin sensitivity, and beneficial changes in lipids, all of which in turn promote endothelial stabilization and vascular health.
3. Heart-healthy lifestyle:
Not only is it essential for you to eat right and exercise, but it is more important for you to get into a healthy routine of good sleep and stress management. Sleep deprivation comes with negative health consequences such as, alteration in glucose metabolism, increased appetite, and decreased energy expenditure. These factors highly contribute to diabetes and obesity, which correlate highly with your overall heart health. If you find yourself overconsuming highly palatable and rewarding food throughout the day for energy, you may already be suffering the consequences. In addition, high stress levels are a major contributor to cardiovascular disease. Implementing stress-reducing Transcendental Meditation to your treatment plan can reduce your risk significantly in myocardial infarctions and stroke.

Hormone imbalance

Our quality of life is measured often times on how much energy and stamina we have for our day to day activities. Whether it is recovering from a grueling Ironman event, making it through an 8 hr work day without falling asleep at your desk or getting through another day picking up after the kids, stress as we age results in poor hormone balance. As the years pass, we are pressured with stress from environmental factors, lifestyle habits and our hormone imbalances. These imbalances can lead to but not limited to delayed healing, immune suppression, fatigue, insomnia, depression, weight gain and irritability.  All of these symptoms can affect our lives in such a negative way. At Finish First we take a comprehensive and educational approach to understanding the direction of treatment that best meets your needs. Co-management with other hormones specialists and our integrative and functional approach to nutrition and stress reduction techniques will get you back on the right track.

Fitness and Fat Loss

We take a rare approach to customized programs here at Finish First. We understand that goals and genetics are drastically different from patient to patient. We focus a tremendous amount of time in plan development for your specific fitness goals and aesthetics as it pertains to your health and goals. Whether you are a hard muscle gainer or a true endomorph, we will use advanced lab diagnostics and clinical reasoning to develop plans that meet your needs. Properly planning your nutrition and exercise physiology all the while working within your genetics is what allows us to have such drastic outcomes that you can truly be proud of.

Diabetes

Did you know that 24 million Americans have type 2 diabetes, with one in three Americans unaware that they have it? Diabetes is literally bankrupting our health care system, which is unfortunate with the knowledge we have today in regards to this health condition. We know that through nutritional intervention and lifestyle modifications that we can reverse the insensitivity to sugar and prevent systemic inflammation. Here at Finish First we utilize several high end laboratory tests to uncover what is driving an individual’s chronic, low-grade inflammation and upregulation of the immune system. The results range from genetics to environmental factors. Most people think that you have to be obese to have diabetes, which is not true. Some common symptoms of diabetes are the following: fatigue or sugar cravings following a meal, frequent urination, increased thirst and appetite, difficulty losing weight, visual problems, numbness and tingling in extremities, and sexual dysfunction. If diabetes runs in your family history or you are suffering from any of the above symptoms, you may be at higher risk for this condition or other health conditions like heart disease.
